A breast surgeon is a fully trained general surgeon who has completed additional training focused on breast diseases, both benign and malignant. This specialization includes training in diagnostic radiology, breast pathology, psychosocial aspects of a cancer diagnosis, benign breast disease, medical oncology, and radiation oncology. In addition, plastic surgical techniques are utilized to preserve breast tissue along with advanced incisional planning to minimize scars and plan for reconstruction.
